Future Healthcare is Diversity

Being a Haitian-American woman employed in the medical industry, I consider myself extremely fortunate and appreciative to have a strong support network like the IAMU. Also, having that guidance and fantastic mentor during nursing school has been extremely beneficial towards being successful in my academic career. Last but not least, IAMU has been really helpful in helping me develop and expand my network of smart, like minded individuals that embodies representation.

As a first generation immigrant and Haitian American student, IAMU has provided me with an
abundance of resources and mentorship support to assist me in achieving my goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. IAMU has connected me with different Physician Assistants and offered general advising information to excel in the healthcare field. I couldn’t have asked for better mentors.

IAMU's mentorship program has been instrumental in my professional and personal development. My mentor is incredibly invested in my  journey, going above and beyond with constant check-ins, providing valuable advice, and identifying key resources to further my career goals. My experience has been invaluable. On days where I feel low, I can always count on my mentor to share their wisdom and lift me up with their encouraging words. I am immensely grateful to be connected with this program.

IAMU has been with me during critical steps of my journey. The mentorship constantly reminds me that I am not alone and I am capable of accomplishing my goals.

I can’t say enough about the amazing work that IAMU does to help boost representation in medicine and science. Their mentors are like family, offering invaluable support in everything from personal statements to life advice. IAMU has genuinely changed my life and the lives of so many others, inspiring us to pursue our dreams.

IAMU has been tremendously influential in my medical journey. As a student who did not enter college with a science major and decided to pursue medicine halfway through it was crucial for me to have constant support and guidance. IAMU provides me with in-depth knowledge and exposure to the world of medicine that I would not have received anywhere else. I can confidently say without them involved in my journey I would not be where I am today. I hope to one day be part of IAMU as a mentor to have a role in providing guidance to future physicians.

As a budding physician-scientist, the mentorship and support I received from IAMU over the past two years have positively shaped my growth and trajectory. Their guidance has been invaluable throughout my premedical studies and post baccalaureate research training. Through IAMU, I received consistent support during rigorous MCAT preparation, constructive feedback on my personal statement, and advice that ultimately led to my success in the medical school application cycle, with nine admissions offers. Their dedication to their mentees is truly unparalleled, and I am grateful for their ongoing support and mentorship.
